The answer to that is simple. Neither and both.
Depending on what you want to do with it, either product and process could be better than the other. Charcoal-Carbon is specifically made for soil improvement at the highest level of carbon. Another offset benefit is wood vinegar which comes from the off gas of the charcoal process. Wood vinegar has extemely beneficial properties for agriclture and horticulture.
On the other hand, biochar has a myriad of beneficial by-products such as bio-diesel used to power machinery. Another possibility is the generation of eco-friendly power. It's all about the intended use and need.
